How the Phillies' model could reignite Mike Trout's career
For the Angels and for Trout, it’s about smart decisions — not sentimental ones. The team should use the Phillies as a guide for the next steps in their star's career.
Hi, everyone!
A late-night (late for me) post from me. That’s what happens with two kiddos under four.
I’ve been thinking a lot about Mike Trout lately. About how it sucks he gets hurt so much. About how fucking awesome he once was. About how his legacy is very mixed now — some people don’t think he’s one of the all-time greats.
I think that’s hot garbage. Look at this screenshot of his first decade in the majors.
Yeah, 2019 was a long time ago. But whew — how quickly people forget.
P.S. Those are only Trout’s traditional offensive statistics. His advanced metrics like WAR and defensive ratings were outstanding, too.
Point is, I don’t want these next six seasons to be like the last four for Trout. I want him to be relatively healthy. I want him to be relatively productive. I want to believe in the legend of Mike Trout again.
I wrote about how I think the Angels can use the Phillies’ blueprint with Bryce Harper for success with Trout.
Will he be up for it? Will the Angels try it?
Those questions will be determined in the coming months.
But for all baseball fans, we hope to see glimpses of the Trout of old. There’s a way to do that without embarrassing or diminishing him as a player or person.
Thank you!
