Reminds me a little of the Yankees in the early 2000's. People forget that the 90's dynasty was in large part homegrown. Of course, Steinbrenner had deep pockets and the homegrown core was supplemented by some big-money acquisitions, which certainly didn't hurt, but it wasn't until after their run that he really went nuts with spending, in an effort to keep it going. They were still good, obviously, and even went to a couple more World Series, but the trophy stream dried up. At least, that's the way I remember it. I could be wrong. It's happened before.
